The Conference in More Detail
Thursday Afternoon & Evening, February 7
Please use the time at this retreat in anyway you like.
Below are sessions that we believe will be useful for the group but don't feel
obligated to attend every session.
- Introductions & Announcements
- Emily Decker & The National Numeracy Network:
Congratulations go to The Washington Center for Improving Undergraduate
Education for landing one of four regional centers for the National
Numeracy Network - in Washington State. Emily Decker -
director of WC will talk about what's up with this national movement and
how it will connect with our work in Math Across the Curriculum.
- Break-out Session I : We are happy to announce that Ethnomathematics
expert - Dr. Eduardo Arismendi-Pardi is attending the retreat. One
session will no doubt involve ethnomathematics. Other possible
sessions will be determined according to participant needs and wishes. Some
suggestions have been: assessment & grading across disciplines,
attitudinal survey results, sharing of like assignments, etc.
- Reflective Writing: Rob Cole will lead us in a reflective writing
exercise designed to help us think of the "big" picture as we
alter our teaching to integrate more mathematics or quantitative reasoning.
- Social: Come join us in the dining room for wine and munchies
and scintillating conversation
Friday Morning, February 8
- Break-Out Session II: This session begins right after breakfast.
Topics and meeting places will have been determined the previous night and
will be posted in the Foyer.
- Report Back from Break Out Sessions: Choose a member from
each breakout session to report out briefly on the highlights.
- Next steps & Wrap-up Everyone will be asked to consider
what his/her plans are following the workshop. You also will be asked
to fill out an evaluation form.
- Report back and wrap-up session We'll come back together and
share our "next steps" before we pack up and hit the highway.
