To preserve the spirit of inclusiveness, enthusiasm for
innovation, and level of productivity established under the original MAC
grant.
To broaden people’s perception (both inside and outside
of mathematics) of what content and reasoning constitutes “math.”
To help mathematics faculty gain experience with how
mathematical concepts and skills are used in other fields.
To validate and support non-mathematics faculty in their
use of mathematical concepts, skills, and metaphors in their own disciplines.
To help students and faculty recognize habits of thought
and behavior shared by courses, programs, or disciplines.
To provide educators with resources for investigating,
developing, or disseminating information about interdisciplinary projects
having mathematics or quantitative reasoning as a core component.
To facilitate the development of such interdisciplinary
projects through a network of individuals at many institutions as well as an
annual “Summer Institute.”
